The Meaning Behind the Ink: The Story

Dear little me

If I were to write a letter to my younger self, I would tell her that she is worthy of love and perfect as she is. And I’d tell her I’m sorry—for not being kinder with my words or for physically hurting myself.

I came to my artist with self-harm scars that I no longer wanted to see, and a concept. I gave her a photo of myself as a little girl and another reference photo of a tattoo of a girl holding a teddy bear. I already have a small drawing of my childhood teddy bear in my phone case, and I asked my artist if she’d be willing to add my own art to the piece—and she agreed.

I couldn’t have asked for better results. She nailed the concept and style perfectly and let me add my own personal art. Now I can happily look at my arm and be reminded that she is me—and she deserves the world.

She helped me heal my inner child.
