Luna Moth in Grandmas Garden
Hello! My name is Emma Bertram. I’ve been getting tattoos with Silver Key for about 3 years! In fact, I’ve only gotten tattoos from your shop—I just love the artists and the vibes. The shop has always been clean and welcoming! The talent in that building is absolutely insane! I recommend you anytime I talk to someone about tattoos. I’ve converted quite a few friends and family!
My most meaningful tattoo was done by Andrew Hoffman. My grandma passed away in 2023, and I wanted to get a memorial piece for her. I had a couple of different ideas, but I knew I wanted to get the same tattoo she got for her 60th—which was a luna moth!
We were very close. Some of the biggest things we had in common were obsessing over Halloween and all things spooky—but most importantly, we loved gardening. She had the most beautiful and fruitful gardens you’ve ever seen! It was very zen to just sit outside and watch the wildlife and pollinators have an absolute blast in all the flowers and plants. To her, it was an art—and she definitely perfected it.
I wish I had the time to keep her garden alive so my grandpa could continue to enjoy it, but she was retired, so that’s where most of her ambition went. As a kid, I thought it was the coolest thing that she grew so many fruits and vegetables in her backyard! The earliest memory I have with her in the garden was collecting blackberries and making delicious pies with them.
So I asked the very talented Andrew to create something with that memory. He did absolutely amazing! It is my favorite piece on my body, and I know my grandma would’ve absolutely loved it. The piece has even inspired my dad (her son) to get a luna moth from Andrew in the near future as well!
I’ve also since lined my backyard with blackberries to recreate this memory with my daughter when she’s older.
