Between the Buried and Me: More than Skin Deep
For anyone that knows me, they know that my all-time favorite band is Between the Buried and Me—the progressive metal band from Winston-Salem, North Carolina that has been blending unorthodox time signatures with punishing vocals for the past 25 years.
What those people also probably know is how important music is to me. It’s more than something I passively listen to in the car. It’s what keeps me going and fills me with passion and excitement that knows no limit. It’s also the thing that has saved my life on multiple occasions—and BTBAM, in particular, have saved me in my darkest moments, when the thread of life I clung to had worn dangerously thin.
Their music speaks to me on a level no other band ever truly has and never ceases to give me full-body goosebumps and bring me this feeling of life that can’t be described.
So it felt only fitting to dedicate my entire arm to this incredibly important part of my life and turn it into a celebration of my three favorite albums: Colors, The Great Misdirect, and The Parallax II: Future Sequence.
John Kautz’s work always stood out to me as being of the high quality that such a fitting piece of art deserved, so I reached out to him and got the ball rolling. I gave him the general idea of what I envisioned and let him work his magic, taking my loose idea and turning it into a piece that never ceases to get compliments. It’s a treasure I’ll always hold dear, and I’ll always be thankful to both John and The Silver Key for helping make it a reality.
